The problem Solver

Whenever I’m asked to introduce myself, I always say “Hey, I’m Henry, I’m a problem solver, IT specialist, software developer and administrator.”, simply because I truly know it is something I do.

When I was young, back in secondary school, I realised that I was more interested in what the subject would help me accomplish than passing exams. I would ask, what advantage is there in learning geography? what will this subject help me solve? and questions like that whenever anyone tried to teach me anything. If I did not see any merit in it, I was almost always sure that I wouldn't pass that subject simply because I stopped paying attention to it and started cramming just to pass the tests.

I loved learning things that I could do with my hands, things that I could solve with my head and logical problems that I could think about and find a solution to.
I guess that’s also why I loved mathematics from a young age and always passed it. I didn’t understand when people said it was too hard to grasp. I used to sometimes be in my mother's shop and math helped me give the right change, we kept chickens commercially at home and I learned electrical work so that I could wire the chicken shelters, I learned to install windows by 12 years old because I found it useful, I learned to open and fix computers because it’s a solution to many people’s problems, I learned to bake because we really needed snacks in that lockdown season, I just love learning things that I can do to solve problems.

My pastor always says that money is a reward for solving problems, so the more problems I solve, the more money I will get.
God has given me a mind that works to solve problems, It has helped me meet new people, and make friends, and I even met my wife when she came to ask me to solve a problem. It might not work all the time, because some problems will need professional solutions, but wisdom will guide you to the right professional to solve your problem. Proverbs 16:3 says “Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.”

That being said, not all problems need your solutions, some problems will solve themselves by just keeping quiet and listening. I found this out from a married’s meeting, and from experience. Sometimes my wife just wants me to listen to her problem, not because she wants a solution, but because she wants to get it off her chest, and that is okay. I don’t know it all, but I know that I must keep people around me that will help me learn more and therefore be able to help others solve more of their problems. Proverbs 15:22 says “Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established.”
